The Independent Living Services

The Independent Living Services (ILS) program offered by The Arc of Alameda County provides opportunities for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities in attaining the best quality of life in the environment of their choice. ILS services offer individuals the opportunity to learn or re-learn skills needed for daily living and maintenance of an independent lifestyle.

ILS Goals and Objectives

  • To provide consumers the information and skill development opportunities needed to live independently.
  • To provide a variety of opportunities to make choices and decisions.
  • To enable a consumer to function at their highest possible level of independence.
  • To teach consumers to maintain a clean and healthy home and community environment.
  • To teach consumers to utilize community resources.
  • To assist and train families to support consumers in obtaining his/her skills.

Program Curriculum
The program curriculum is designed to meet each consumer's needs, capabilities, and goals as described in their Individual Program Plan (IPP).

The services are provided within the consumer's home and community environment allowing the consumer to generalize and integrate the skills learned throughout their daily routine.

  • Personal Hygiene
  • Shopping
  • Social and Community Skills

Eligibility Criteria

  • Must be a consumer of the Regional Center of the East Bay
  • Must be ast least 18 years of age
  • Must have the desire to receive ILS training
  • ILS must be a part of the consumer's Individual Program Plan (IPP)
  • Must have sufficient income to sustain an appropriate lifestyle in the community
  • Must require no more than 40 hours per month of service

Currently serving cities throughout Alameda County.

Hours/Days of Operation
The days and hours that service is provided is flexible and geared to meet the consumer's needs and schedules.

The ILS Staff
The Arc of Alameda County employs staff that are flexible, diverse and multi-cultural. They are trained in all skills of daily living, community access and money management. We are a licensed program.
