Alternative Ventures Program (AVP)

This program is for our Vocational Development Center (VDC) consumers who wish to work part time and be in a creative social-recreational program part time. Consumers attend VDC 3 days a week and AVP 2 days a week. Consumers have an onsite program as well as offsite outings into the community at large.

Staff to client ratio is 1:6

Individuals who are motivated to work part time and attend a part time recreation-socialization program (both onsite and in the community) are encouraged to apply. Persons must have a Regional Center of the East Bay Case manager for eligibility purposes.

Activities Overview
The activities are consumer-centered and focused. Consumers provide staff with an annual preference survey which helps set up the monthly calendars for onsite/community-based activities. Below is a sampling of activities:

  • Arts and Crafts
  • Movies
  • Bingo
  • Picnics in Parks
  • Singing, Musical Enrichment
  • Movement, Physical Fitness, Stamina & Walking Programs
  • Relaxation, Coping & Breathing Exercises
  • Pee Wee Golf, Nature Centers, Visiting Libraries
  • Trips via Van
  • Socialization, etc!
  • Reading
